For the fundamentally new corporate design of the Liebherr Group, MetaDesign asked me to assist in the creation of an icon system forming visual unity with the distinct corporate “Liebherr” typeface designed by HVD Fonts – a functional sans-serif with technical but also humanistic appeal.
Result of this work so far is a set of 700 icons with a clear and consistent but also personal style matching to the typeface. Included is a wide range from technical to abstract and even botanical and zoological visual characters. Many icons, especially the technical ones, have undergone a lengthy process to improve clarity and reduce visual clutter while making them immediately distinguishable from other similar items or concepts. Since applications may be diverse, versions of varying complexity were created in numerous cases.
Usually icons are designed in two sizes.

In addition to the usual two size versions, some machines also need to be shown in large format. These variants have more details, which is important for distinguishing the machines from those of other suppliers.
